Spring is often viewed as a time for growth and rebirth. What will you focus your attention on this season? My plan is to water the flowers—not the weeds—and renew my personal commitment to a growth mindset. I will give my time and attention to activities that help me see my surroundings with new eyes and deepen the human connections in my life.
Recently, I’ve seen and heard some of today’s foremost “conscious thinkers” and influencers share their knowledge. They are writers, entrepreneurs and leaders who encourage learning at any age. Here are a few of my favorites:
1. Dare to Lead, by Brené Brown. A research professor who studies human emotions, Brené Brown highlights that humans are hardwired for connection, curiosity and engagement. She speaks to being more vulnerable and more courageous in how we live and lead in our lives. For some, this may come naturally; but for many it does not. I admire her authenticity and willingness to be honest and real. A Brené Brown quote that speaks to me is: “There is no innovation and creativity without failure. Period.”
2. Impact Theory, hosted by Tom Bilyeu. Impact Theory is an interview series that introduces people to thought leaders and shares how some of the world’s highest achievers achieved success. I find these interviews incredibly informative and inspirational because Tom Bilyeu provides listeners the tools and knowledge to unlock their potential and impact the world. Some of my favorite interviews include Vishen Lakhiani, Mel Robbins and Jay Shetty. Simply imagining your potential is a lot different than actually doing something to achieve it!
3. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. I am in a role that has the word “human” in its title, and I place a lot of significance on this. I value the ability to connect with people every day in the work I do. The Four Agreements is a simple yet powerful approach to personal growth. This old school favorite highlights crucial elements of successful human connections: “Be impeccable with your word. Don’t take anything personally. Don’t make assumptions. Always do your best.”
