Strong Women, Strong Girls

Strong Women, Strong Girls (SWSG) is a mentoring program that fosters a sense of community, empowerment, and leadership capabilities among women and girls. SWSG’s core program is an after-school model, in which small groups of 2-3 college women work with 10-12 elementary-school girls for 1.5 hours per week. SWSG brings women of both present and past into its all-female community by structuring its curriculum around female role models, each of whom demonstrates a foundational skill for girls. The girls learn about one role model per week, then do an activity to practice the skill themselves. Though SWSG directly serves low-income, at-risk girls, the organization’s reach is far beyond this group. SWSG offers an incredible opportunity for college women to develop as leaders, and through the new Leadership Coach program, professional women act as mentors to the college women.
