Marion Jones

Marion Jones is one of the world’s most celebrated athletes. As a college basketball star for the North Carolina Tar Heels, U.S. Olympic track athlete and now a member of the Tulsa Shock WNBA team, Jones’ career has inspired millions. Jones accepted a basketball scholarship and attended the University of North Carolina, where she led her Tar Heel team to the 1994 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship. As a member of the USA Track Team, Jones won gold medals in the 100 Meters and 4×100 Meter Relay in the 1997 World Championships. She went on to win five medals (three gold and two bronze) at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Jones voluntarily returned all of her Olympic medals, and publicly apologized to her family, friends and fans all over the world after admitting to using performance-enhancing drugs in 2007. In May 2009, while eight months pregnant with her third child, Jones received a telephone call asking if she had an interest

in playing professional basketball in the WNBA. She immediately jumped at the opportunity to return to her first love: basketball. In February 2011, Jones signed a multi-year contract to continue playing with the WNBA ‘s Tulsa Shock.
