Big Sister Association
Mentoring Organization
Big Sister Association was founded in 1951 with the stated purpose “to unite into an organized body individuals interested in the welfare of girls who need understanding, friendship, counsel, and skillful guidance for the purpose of fostering such growth in the individual girl that she will have the quality of vision and spirit to sustain her in the future.” Big Sister Association of Greater Boston serves 69 cities and towns that make up Greater Boston and creates professionally supported mentoring relationships between women and girls. In the one-to-one mentoring programs, a girl (Little Sister) between the ages of seven to 15 is matched with a woman (Big Sister) who has been carefully interviewed and screened to determine suitability and readiness.
