AMY KAO serves as the SVP, head of research unit neuroscience & immunology (RU N&I) at EMD Serono with responsibility to discover and transform novel targets into medicines of tomorrow for people living with autoimmune and neuroinflammatory conditions. Kao has recently been appointed as the new Billerica Site Head. Kao is currently leading the N&IRULT, co-leading the TASELT, and is a member of the N&I DULT and R&DCM. She is actively involved in the lupus scientific community and is the co-chair of the Lupus Research Alliance Industry Council. Kao earned her BS in biochemistry and received the Foundation Award of Excellence in Biochemistry from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton and MD from the SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn. She completed her post-graduate training in internal medicine and rheumatology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she also earned an MPHin epidemiology and a MS in biomedical informatics.
