MACFW Statement on Today’s Supreme Court Ruling

June 24, 2022

As an organization dedicated to the advancement of women in the workplace since 2005, we unequivocally believe in women’s rights to equal benefits in the workplace, to equal access to quality health care, and to make their own decisions about their bodies.

For these reasons, we regard today’s United States Supreme Court decision rolling back recognition of women’s Constitutional right to make their own reproductive decisions as a tragic and historic setback for women – and our nation.

While effectively making women second-class citizens, this decision is also expected to have significant implications for families, workplaces, and the economy. Extensive research, for example, shows that the rollback of reproductive rights will likely lead to:

  • A decline in women’s participation in the workforce,
  • A decline in the financial well-being of women and their families, and
  • A decline in access to quality health care.

For women of color in the U.S., the maternal mortality rate is also already unacceptably high. This decision threatens to exacerbate that reality.

As decisions about women’s access to reproductive rights now return to states, we encourage everyone in our community to make their voices heard.

And we applaud our many sponsor partners that continue to ensure women have access to the quality health care they need and deserve.
