Abigail Trafford

Abigail Trafford is an author, journalist and public speaker who focuses on the new stage of life that comes after middle age but before traditional old age. Her book, “My time: Making the Most of the Bonus Decades after 50” (Basic Books) chronicles the social revolution of living longer, healthier lives. “As Time Goes By” (Basic Books) explores the new rules for relationships in this uncharted period. In her Washington Post column, she discussed the potential and the problems of longevity for both individuals and society. She gave a keynote address at the White House Conference on Aging. For 14 years, she was the health editor of the Washington Post. She has covered a range of stories from the landings on the moon to the politics of abortion. Trafford is also the author of “Crazy time: Surviving Divorce and Building a New Life.” A graduate of Bryn Mawr College, she received a journalism fellowship at the Harvard School of Public Health and was a visiting scholar at the Stanford Center on Longevity. @WASHINGTONPOST
