EMD SeronoPassionate about Giving Back

EMD Serono is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen, and in 2009 this commitment was on full display. With over 14,167 miles biked or walked, 260 pounds of food donated, 140 computers provided to local schools, 60 teddy bears donated to police, 50 students hosted for job shadows, over 5,500 volunteer hours served and nearly $20,000 provided to a variety of charitable organizations through matching contributions – EMD Serono would like to thank employees for their dedication to the communities in which they work and live.

At the Massachusetts Conference for Women in December 2009, EMD Serono continued its commitment to the community by asking all conference attendees to help make an impact. A $4,500 donation was made to Girls for a Change, through EMD Serono’s purchase of the Sephora Project Totes. The company helped to raise awareness of this organization by providing a Sephora Project Tote to over 3,000 conference attendees. Girls for a Change is a national organization that empowers thousands of teen girls to create and lead social change.

"Girls for a Change is thrilled to partner with organizations that help girls and women see themselves as powerful, brilliant, and beautiful. The proceeds donated from EMD Serono's purchase of the Sephora Project Totes will help us reach thousands of girls who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn how to create positive change in their communities and in their own lives," says Whitney Smith, CEO of Girls for a Change.

EMD Serono is focused on discovering and developing innovative products that meet unmet medical needs in the areas of Neurodegenerative Diseases, Fertility, Metabolic Endocrinology and Oncology. The company is also dedicated to making a difference in society – this combined passion and drive enables the company to impact patient lives and charitable organizations in these areas.

“EMD Serono and its employees are passionate about giving back,” said Renee Connolly, Vice President of US Communications for EMD Serono. “This conference provided us with an opportunity to support this unique charity, focused on providing teen girls the resources they need to make an impact. It is our hope that each bag provided to conference attendees made an impression both on the organization and each recipient.”
